Welcome News Journal readers!

Today's News Journal features a front page story about the Wilmington parking ticket issue.

Here's a couple of excerpts:

Campaigns such as Grant's are a way for residents to fight back, said Erik Feder, who helped start Tired of Parking Tickets Inc., a New York-based online company that provides motorist parking information in several major cities, including New York and Philadelphia. This includes parking regulations block by block, information on where it's legal to park and advice on what to do if a motorist gets a parking ticket.

"The more information you know and how prepared you are, the less likely you are to get a ticket," Feder said.

...

Because one video lampoons the city's parking signage as confusing or inaccurate, Montgomery said, Wilmington's Transportation Office and Downtown Visions have embarked on a joint review of every sign in the downtown district to make sure they portray accurate information.

"We will also check for outdated signs or signs that may be missing," he said.

The city also is preparing a fact sheet on parking laws, rules and regulations and will post it on its website soon, he said.

  1. I was fascinated by the comment that it was up to motorists to call the city to see if they had outstanding violations, even if they weren't aware of them. Maybe it would be a good idea to post that number so that hundreds of people can call each day. Apparently they have the staff and phone lines to deal with such a high volume every day. Just think, maybe we can get over a thousand people to do this on a daily basis, just to keep ourselves informed, of course.

  2. Thanks Anonymous - and yes, that was the point of Wilmington Parking PSA 1 - the number to call is 302-576-2400. The sad part is, some people called and discovered they did, in fact, have tickets to pay.
